When I said our government has gone rogue, I knew what I was saying in my last rant when I posted "This Is Not A Country". I wasn't mincing words and I even felt I didn't capture as much as I would have loved to. We are living in the jungle and the Lions are out to play. We all know that Lions sometimes kill for sports and not necessarily because of hunger. That's the kind of leadership we have in Nigeria. They are hungry for blood, they are also ready for sports and they are going unchecked.
I have never seen a country without accountability as Nigeria. Trust me, I know there are other countries like that too but I can only speak for what I am seeing and feeling. You are constantly pushed down when you try to speak up. You are the enemy of the state for demanding a better experience as a citizen. They feed fat on everyone's resources. 80% of our resources are controlled by 20% while 80% of the populace scramble for the remaining 20%. What a country we live in.
The annoying part is they don't care what you say or how you feel. They are not bothered about how they are perceived both locally and internationally. They let you know they are oppressing you and still rub it in your face. They are indeed the ones Michael Jackson sang for when he said: "All I want to say is that, they don't really care about us". They are not here to serve. They just want to exploit which is why they would kill just to get to that position. It is all about politics to them than service. The labour of our heroes past has gone to waste. I doubt they even know the lyrics and the deep meaning in our national anthem.
With the event that happened on October 20th, 2020 during the Lekki Toll Gate. The issue is still unsolved. The damage still unfixed. The impact still yet to fade away with justice still unserved and only frozen accounts being released yet they are more concerned about the toll they have stopped receiving at the toll gate.
The toll was built to pay for the roads that were done even though that sounds so absurd and stupid but still, how many years are the citizens going to be paying the toll for the road maintenance? We are paying to enjoy the basic amenities that is our right constitutionally. How does any of this make sense?
With the cloud of uncertainties and pending judgement still in the air, the government has gone ahead to reopen the toll gate that has been closed since that October 20th. They are more concerned about the revenue that is only enticing their own pockets and doing nothing meaningful for the populace and according to reports, this revenue from toll gate is even going to a godfather not the purse of the state government.
The youths already said they would go there again to stop the reopening because the issue still left unresolved and to intimidate the protesters, they released a battalion of uniformed men with teargas, guns and ammunition. It is crazy! Are we going to war? Against peaceful protesters? So we have this much of Uniformed men and yet insurgencies have taken up the whole of the country? There was nothing done to arrest the growing insurgencies and yet they can release uniform men to intimidate the citizens? Speaking of misplaced priorities. Insurgencies walk free while citizens are being battered and attacked because they are demanding their rights by letting their voices to be heard. Even animals do things better, don't you think?
I have never seen a government so scared of accountability and would do anything just to intimidate the citizens they swore to protect. How did we get here as a nation? How did we explain this to future generations? Is this the kind of world we wish to allow future generations to come into? Despite knowing that everything is a seed and once that habit has been cultivated it would be difficult to change? And you think things can actually change with these people at the helm of affairs? I weep for Nigeria. I weep for her future. I weep for the children yet unborn.
This is Nigeria where the leaders are not accountable and the citizens live in intimidation. Welcome to Nigeria, a land flowing with milk and honey yet the citizens are impoverished with no certainty as to where the next meal would come from. This is Nigeria, and the government killing everyone quicker than malaria.
