Someone raised an interesting question which Bro. Eli Soriano did justice to and I am sharing all the things I learned from his video in addition to my own Bible studies as well.
The question above is what the person asked Bro. Eli and furthermore he probed that how does the scripture support the claim that the blessed Mary is of David's descendants? How could she be descendants from David's tribe when she is, in fact, Cousin of Elizabeth who was one of the daughters of the Levite, Aaron?
No verse in the Bible shows that the Levite is a pure race just as we still have in our modern world where the child can claim either of the parent's genealogy. I have also had people whose mother is Igbo and the father a Yoruba. Such a person can claim to be either of the two tribes mentioned albeit he or she is mixed and not a pure race. There are ways in which we can nationalize into a tribe or naturalize and one of those is by Marriage or by naturalization; living in a country for more than 10 years, I think.
Even from the tribe of Abraham, there was am intermingling of the 12 tribes too with other tribes by the virtue of marriage, so there is a higher probability for there to be a mixed-race in all of these.
Matthew 1:6 (NIV)
and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
Like 3:31 (NIV)
the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,
In both genealogies of Jesus, the ancestry of David is mentioned. it was a general knowledge for the New Testament times that Jesus, the Messiah would come from the House of David. Joseph is of course from the descendant of David in both genealogies mentioned above and on the other hand, the New Testament sources are silent about Mary's descendant from David.
As earlier mentioned above, however, through her marriage or union with Joseph, she automatically enters Joseph's family and lineage and of course, legally becomes a part of the House of David, even with Jesus with her.
Jeremiah 23:5 (NIV)
“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.
Psalms 132:11 (NIV)
The Lord swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne.
The above Bible references show Jesus' Davidic lineage and it thus suggests that Mary was of the same too by the virtue of birth. Even though Jesus' birth was divine and the acceptance of Joseph to still stay married to Mary already established the fact that by marriage, Mary and Jesus are from the same lineage. It wouldn't have happened without the cooperation of Joseph which was why the Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph and discussed with him the truth about the pregnancy that Mary was carrying as discussed in Matthew 1:18-24.
