These are the amazing things I learned from Bro. Eli Soriano's teaching on the above-mentioned topic in addition to my own personal research as well.
As a single Christian woman, you are expected to live your life serving the Lord. It is okay to get married and of course after getting married, there would be some distraction which might not let you serve in a way you would have wanted and it is okay, but while still being single, you need to live and serve the Lord.
Ruth was busy on the field when Boaz found her. You need to be busy doing things you love and also serving the Lord. That is what God would want to have you do as a single Christian woman. Let us consider the Bible's perspective of this, as shared by Bro. Eli Soriano.
1 Corinthians 7:32-35 (NIV)
I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord.
But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife—
and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband.
I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.
As a married woman, it is understandable that there would be a distraction in serving the Lord. God knows this and that is why He would have us serve Him early so it can be easy to serve Him even while being married. When you have allowed service to God to be a part and parcel of you, you find a way to continue doing it to a reasonable extent when married too.
This brought to mind the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10: 38-42.
40:
But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
She was distracted with house chores and fixing the meals but that wasn't what was important to Jesus. Martha opened the home for Jesus to come in but Mary picked the best part in listening. Listening to God's Word is an act of reference and service which is the model Jesus want us to follow when He told Martha to let Mary be.
Martha was focused with the activities while Mary was focused on learning. As a single Christian woman, it is expected for you not to be consumed with mere activities but be of service to the Lord. God wants servers, listeners and those who will worship Him in reference. Let's examine Jesus' response in verse 41&42
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Few things are needed or indeed only one and Mary has chosen what is better. It is better to be of service to God while waiting to be married, IF you choose to get married. It is easier to be immersed into it while being single than when you are having family distractions but it would be better to start off early so you can understand what service means and find a way around it even while being married.
As a woman, especially a single Christian woman, it is expected to be of service in anyway and every way you can. The story of Rebecca also came to my mind while listening to the teaching of this topic. You can read the story in Genesis chapter 24, how Abraham sent his eldest servant, Eliezer to find a wife for his son, Isaac.
He departed with 10 camels as stated in verse 10 of the aforementioned chapter. He came into the City and met with Rebecca. Rebecca was of service to this man and she didn't only give the man water, she also gave the camels too as stated in verse 19.
A camel can drink up to 200 litres of water, that's 53 gallons, more especially after embarking on such a long journey. It was recorded that she fed them until they were done drinking. So, in an act of service, she fed 10 camels and that is 2,000 litres of water (530 gallons).
As a single Christian woman, be kind, be patient, be homely, be humble, be enduring and most importantly, be useful and be in service. Her act of service got her into the blessings of Abraham. This is how a Christian single woman is expected to act and of course, a man has his own role to play as well as shared yesterday.
Ecclesiastes 12:1 (NIV)
Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”—
