Mark 8:22-25
NIV: They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him.
He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
What Jesus did in the above scriptural reference is clearly an indication about the process. There is a process for everything. Imagine someone who has been blind for a long time and the moment he gets operated on, the eyes would have to undergo some processes. The vision won't be outright from the go because it would take some adjusting to due to the sharpness of light he would now be exposed to. There is a recovery stage.
Eyes absorb light and it must not be rapid especially when he has been out of sight for so long. He has to be eased into it gradually so as not to damage the eyes in the long run.
This is also very significant in our walk with God. When we accept Jesus as our Lord, we grow in Him gradually and learn of His ways as we grow which is why the Bible says there would be lines upon lines, precept upon precept. A little here and a little there. We don't attain in an instant, we grow as we go.
