Manchester City players are history makers and Guardiola has revived this team again after doubts regarding their status in the Premier League earlier in the season when results were not forthcoming. He had turned his team back to goal machines and they have been unstoppable since then. They have struggled for goals and now with Gundogan stepping up his game and others chipping in their own quota, they have been getting results with devastating effect. This resurgence has taken them to the top of the League with 5 points over second-placed Manchester United and still, City has a game in hand over Everton. They have not only been phenomenal but impressive.
Swansea hosted Manchester City for the 5th round of the FA Cup and a win would guarantee just one team in the Quarter-Finals. City didn't only qualify but they made history along with it. City has broken Arsenal's record with their FA Cup win over Swansea by extending their winning run to 15 games in all competitions. This is 1 more than Preston in 1892 and Arsenal's winning streak in 1987. Their 15 game winning run began in December 19th when they beat Southampton by 1-0.
This FA Cup win was Pep Guardiola's 200th victory in charge of Manchester City. He took over this team in 2016 and he has played 268 games. What a remarkable delivery for a world class coach that he is. He has turned Manchester City into a power house but still the Champions League trophy has eluded them.
City would be taking on Tottenham next in the Premier League and a win against Jose Moutinho's men would be a massive step towards winning the Premier League but any dropped points would be a blow to them as it would cut their lead if others win their own games especially Manchester United and Leicester. Seeing how City ruthlessly demolished Liverpool, Tottenham should be ready to defend and play on the counter-attack to get anything out of this game because Tottenham cannot afford another defeat.
Swansea received their own beating at the hands of City in the 5th round of the FA Cup and Walker opened the scoring in the 30th minute when surprisingly, his cross into the box was out of reach for Feran Torres and it went straight into the net. Walker got a bit lucky with that but it was deserved. If the attempt wasn't made, the goal wouldn't have happened. 1-0.
Swansea got close to levelling up when Jay Fulton's header went over the bar. It would have produced a more tensed game if that had gone in. City sensed the intention and in the 47th minute, Sterling doubled the advantage when he found space in the box and got the coolest of finishes.
City took the game beyond all doubts when Gabriel Jesus got the 3rd goal in the 50th minute. He expertly turned in the box and produced a first time volley. It was a perfect ball into the box by Bernardo Silva. Brilliant assist too.
In the 77th minute, Swansea got a consolation goal when Whittaker produced a brilliant low shot into the back of the net leaving Steffen - Manchester City's goalkeeper on the night with no chance of saving it. City cruised to a 3-1 win but the concern would be turned to Rodri who got injured during the course of the match. They would hope it won't be a serious injury so the momentum within the team won't come to a halt.
All hail the history makers.
