Blessed is the day,
that the chains of captivity
broke from your hands.
Blessed is the day,
that the weights of colonization
was lifted from your head.
Blessed is the day,
you fought for your liberation.
Blessed is the day,
that you gained freedom
from the menace of imperialism.
Blessed is the day,
you waged war against slavery.
Blessed are those days,
when you fought against corruption and bribery,
even with help of the military.
Blessed are these days that seem unblessed,
because of the way things are,
for the end result of bitterness is sweetness,
the end of a day is the beginning of a new dawn.
Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!
