Leeds United hosted Aston Villa and would be hoping on their first league double over Villa but it wasn't meant to be on this day as Villa rose up to the challenge and got the needed away win. It was an evenly balanced game and Villa came up with the goods.
Not too long into the game, Patrick Bamford tried to produce a curling effort but his effort didn't go as he intended and Rafinha tried to get on the end of that ball but the ball was too fast for him.
Aston Villa got the goal they desperately needed when El Ghazi's freekick still ended up getting back to him and he slotted home coolly. The Leeds players were hoping for the offside call but nothing came. It was a perfectly timed movement from El Ghazi to score, 1-0.
Martinez came to the rescue for his team after an initial shot from Rafinha was blocked off and it ended it finding Bamford who wasted no time to hit the ball but Martinez was equal to the task to keep his side ahead.
El Ghazi almost added to his tally on the day with a thumping outside the box shot that the goalkeeper could only parry away for a corner. Aston Villa intends on keeping their lead and not just soak up the pressure from Leeds United.
Rafinha would rue his misses on the day as another excellent delivery found him but he nodded it down and the ball went over the bar. It was a perfect opportunity to draw his side level but it wasn't meant to be.
Aston Villa did an excellent job in keeping the clean sheet and defending resolutely after going ahead so early in the game. Villa stays in 9th position while Leeds United stays in 11th with 4 points separating the two sides. It has been a revelational season for Leeds United after coming into the Premier League and they have dazzled while winning over the hearts of neutrals.
