Knowing how this season has been full of surprises, I shouldn't be surprised but still, I am. With Arsenal's current form, I expected a battering for them from Chelsea but Arsenal turned up.
Arsenal played youth in this match against Chelsea. Chelsea had the first real chance when Mason Mount took a free-kick that almost went in. It struck the outside of the upright and you would expect more chances from Chelsea.
Arsenal soaked it all up and showed flashes of their own brilliance too. Arsenal took the lead with a contentious penalty that Lacazette duly dispatched. Arsenal grew into the game and bombarded Chelsea afterwards. Soon, it was 2 goals up.
Xhaka scored a brilliant free-kick that left the goalkeeper no chance at all. Mendy gave a full stretch but still couldn't keep out Xhaka's brilliant curling effort.
Chelsea's goalkeeper wasn't done picking the ball at the back of the net when Saka scored another brilliant one. I believe he meant it to be a cross and got lucky but then, let's face it, that was a beauty to watch.
Chelsea pulled one back with Tammy Abraham's chested goal which happened to be Chelsea's first shot on target.
Chelsea got another lifeline to set up the match for a nervy ending when Mount won a penalty but Jorginho couldn't bury it as he usually does.
Arsenal should have been out of sight with 6 goals but they also couldn't take all the chances they had. It was a match that surprised most people and it was indeed the kind of motivation Arsenal needed after languishing in 15th position for a while.
This win should be a springboard for Arsenal while Chelsea goes back to the drawing board.
