Two Struggling teams took on each other and a win would be perfect to ease the burden of the relegation scrap while a defeat will condemn the other. A draw might be fair but it won't do so much for both teams. A win would be a step in the right direction but only one team can win.
West Brom has been struggling for a long time now and can only notably state they won against Liverpool while Fulham has been picking a point off the big teams too except for Manchester United.
They both fancied their chances to win but I felt Fulham did more than enough to win and they wasted too many chances too. If they had taken their chances in the first half, it would have killed any idea of a comeback for West Brom.
Fulham wonderfully took the lead when a diagonal pass found Mitrovic who brilliantly held the ball and found Bobby (Reid) and he wasted no chance when he buried his effort. It was a wonderful team effort and a great goal for Fulham.
Not too long after, Bobby found himself in the same situation when he was played through and this time, he went one on one with the goalkeeper. Anyone would have expected him to make it 2 goals on the night, 2 for him and 2 for Fulham but after beating the goalkeeper his effort was saved by the base of the post. That should have been 2-0.
In the 30th minute, Lookman came close this time and he was easily displaced in the box. He felt he was fouled but the referee waved it off. He still managed to fire his shot but the goalkeeper saved it. If he had gone down under the pull of Ajayi and not kick the ball, I believe it would have been a penalty.
The half time ended with only one goal separating the two sides. Fulham should have had 3 goals in the first half but they didn't.
The second half resumed and West Brom came with the answers in the 50th minute. A good cross from Pereira came in and it bounces to find Bartley who wasted no chance than to guide the ball into the back of the net. A huge relief for West Brom and of course, pain for Fulham who would rue their missed chances in the first half.
In the 69th minute, the assist provider for West Brom turned into the goal scorer on the day. It was another brilliant ball in from the side and it went just right in albeit with a touch of deflection. Pereira dragged his team from being a goal down to completing the turnaround with the second goal. 2-1 with West Brom leading.
Fulham did everything to drag themselves back into the game and Kyle Bartley, the scorer of the first goal almost got himself a second but his effort could only flash across the face of the goal. It was so close and almost nicking the base of the other post but still, no one to connect.
Fulham played with more urgency and in the 79th minute, from being ahead to trailing, they dragged themselves to level the matter and it was Ivar Cavaleiro who nodded home from Reid's ball into the box. It's a funny game as another assist maker of the night also got a goal just as Pereira has done for West Brom. Game on and it is 2-2.
Both went through the match hoping to get the needed win for the 3 points but it wasn't meant to be. Both defending resolutely and hoping for the big break on a counter. Every effort both team had didn't materialize but Fulham had that upper hand and they didn't take it.
A brilliant effort came for Fulham in the 85th minute. Mitrovic could have won it for Fulham when he missed a perfect header by putting it within the reach of the goalkeeper. He would be kicking himself because that would have been game over for West Brom and his Fulham side would have been happy with the 3 points.
The game ended 2-2 and it's a point gained by both teams. Fulham is still languishing in 18th position with 14 points from 20 games, still with a game in hand while West Brom found themselves in 19th position with 12 points from 21 games. If Fulham can win their outstanding game, it will take them just a point behind Brighton provided Brighton lose against Tottenham Hotspurs.
