Fulham handed Liverpool another home league defeat and the shocking form of Liverpool continues. They are now the first side to lose 6 games at home ever since Huddersfield lost 7 in 2019. They have struggled for form of late and their title defence has been in shambles. They are playing for pride right now with the hope of qualifying for the Champions League at least. With so many teams vying for this and their inconsistent form, it is looking like a distant dream for Liverpool.
Liverpool hosted Fulham who has been unbeaten on the road for the last 8 games which saw them win 2 and drew 6.
The in-form Maja wasted an early chance when a lovely cross found him in the box but he could only get his effort off the target. An early relief for Liverpool there. Lookman also had a lovely chance in the 11th minute. He was able to drive into the box and his shot wasn't in any way a threat to Alisson. Fulham with the better chances early on.
In the 16th minute, Areola had to quickly come out and block Salah off to stifle the threat after Shaqiri played him in. A ball was also played into the box intended for Maja, in the 22nd minute but the effort went behind him and it was dealt with. Fulham showed they were ready to give Liverpool a run for their money while Liverpool still trying to find answers with a few chances of their own via Salah.
In the 31st minute, Alisson came to the rescue when he quickly knocked a ball off the feed of Maja who wanted to poke the ball home mid-air. In the 40th minute, Shaqiri should have given his team the league with a lovely freekick that could only clip the upper side of the net as it found its way out.
The moment of truth came in the 45th minute, just before half time when Lemina outpowered Salah and unleashed a lovely shot into the back of the net to give his side ahead, 1-0. That effort was the only thing that separated the two teams and it was enough for the much needed 3 points Fulham desired.
The half time ended and Liverpool knew they had to respond. A brilliant Diogo Jota's shot was expertly saved by Areola to keep his side in the game. What a save it was. In a bid of desperation, Liverpool started throwing everything at Fulham and Williams also had a shot at the edge of the box but it went wide.
Keita crossed a ball to Sadio Mane in the box. He connected with the ball and tried to find the top corner but he could only clip the top angle of the post. Shaqiri also tried to produce a bending effort but he missed marginally. Liverpool went through the match searching for answers but they got none while Fulham got the win their performance deserved in a desperate need to beat the drop and stay in the Premier League. Liverpool have some serious issues to address.
