Arsenal is willing to let go of the horror of losing in the F.A Cup by continuing their Premier League form. They have had it good in the league of late and they have been unbeaten in 5 games before this game.
Southampton would be hoping they can do to Arsenal what they did to Liverpool and they got to a bright start when Armstrong gave them the lead from a corner. The ball bounced for him and he scored sensationally. He had too much space in the box and the defensive line should be held responsible for that.
It wasn't long before Pepe drew his side level as well with a brilliant assist from Granit Xhaka. You would have expected Xhaka to hit the shot himself but he found Pepe with a defence-splitting pass and Pepe did the rest with a good goal.
Armstrong tried to drag his side ahead again in the 24th minute to register his second goal but his header was brilliantly saved by Leno. It was a good save by Leno.
In the 38th minute, Arsenal pulled ahead with a goal from the boy wonder, Saka. The goalkeeper should know better never to step out of line and chase a ball he had no chance of getting too. Arsenal punished Southampton for this error and Saka rounded up the goalkeeper to slot the ball into an open net. He did it with ease and class.
As we have been praising the emergence of Foden, we can do the same for this young boy, Saka. He has carried the whole team on his back and Arsenal is reaping the reward of it.
Walcott was hoping to do one over his former employer when he had a chance to draw his side level in the 50th minute but his shot went straight which made it easy for Leno to save.
Arsenal made sure the victory is sealed when Cedric's long ball found the impressive Saka whose first time pass in the box found Lacazette to make it 3-1. It was the good sense of judgement to pick out Lacazette first time that got the goal. It was a beautiful ball to watch. Lacazette wasted no time and what an easy goal and a timely one too from him to kill any hope of a come back for Southampton in the 72nd minute.
Southampton still hoped to get something from the game when they got a freekick on the edge of the area. You could have bet Ward Prowse to put the ball at the back of the net but Leno brilliantly saved it much to the surprise of Ward Prowse.
The game ended 1-3 on the night after going down so early in the game. Arsenal rallied round and beat Southampton on their own turf. That is now 6 games unbeaten from Arsenal and what better place to get it than against the Saints. Arsenal now moved up to 8th place and you can see how much it means to Mikel Arteta especially after hearing that Frank Lampard has been relieved of his duties by Chelsea.
Arsenal would be hoping to start improving their gameplay now because it would be another season of transition if Mikel Arteta was asked to leave as well.
6 games unbeaten, are we seeing the new Arsenal? Arsenal fans would be delighted and rightly so. There is always a joy for the fans when they are winning. The fans would always appreciate the efforts made by the players when they see how committed they are to changing the tides. There would be down moments, yes but there would always be the confidence that there is hope for the team.
The win is good for the confidence of the team as they would be playing with Manchester United next. It's a massive derby and both sides have some exciting players who can turn the game around. We look forward to the spectacular game. It should live up to the billing and it would be exciting.
Arsenal has picked form in the league just at the right time and they would be hoping to continue in that rich vein of form. Their back to back wins would actually mean so much when others that are ahead of them are dropping points too because if they don't drop points, Arsenal would keep winning, yes but there won't be many changes on the table.
Premier League this season has been hugely unpredictable. It has always been like that but there is that extra bit of unpredictability to it this season. We wait and see how it all pans out.
