[1] Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment, And cause it to give off a foul odor; So does a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor.

[3]Even when a fool walks along the way, He lacks wisdom, And he shows everyone that he is a fool.
[4]If the spirit of the ruler rises against you, Do not leave your post; For conciliation pacifies great offenses.

[9]He who quarries stones may be hurt by them, And he who splits wood may be endangered by it.
[10]If the ax is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success.
[11]A serpent may bite when it is not charmed; The babbler is no different.
STUDY
Among the Jews, ointments were made fragrant by mixing them with costly spices and precious drugs;they were used for many different purposes. Very great care was needed in the preparation and processing of the materials used for such special purposes and as costly as the ointment was, it was easily spoiled and rendered worthless by the slightest carelessness. Safeguarding it was therefore critical, not only due to the great pains put into making it, but also to preserve it from contamination.In fact, as little as a dead fly could corrupt the ointment and turn it into a foul-smelling concoction.

The lesson here is that a noble character can be corrupted and destroyed by a little folly and carelessness; an insignificant-looking fault or weakness candevalue great gifts and attainments. Any fault in character is not just a stain on a stone but a sore deep into the skin and may destroy the whole person. Dead flies that mar success can comefrom little sins,idleness, laziness, selfishness, stealing, lies, cheating, exam-malpractice, procrastination, arrogance, anger, impatience, talkativeness, gossip, gluttony, lack of self-control, fornication, masturbation, drug addiction, etc. You are a product of your character, work on the FLIES!
