The Way We Analyze
The human mind is attuned to analyze something by looking at past experiences and putting things together. That is why we may not want to speak in public because we had an experience that was not so good or has certain beliefs around money. After all, experience told us that we were struggling for money most of the time. But is looking at the past the best thing to do?
It is not about what we do but about how we are wired. We have been conditioned for generations to look at the past and learn from it. The learning part is good, but the restricting part is not. Besides, we subconsciously assume the past is right. It need not be. Let me explain this with an example.
Consider two people with a different lifestyle. One is the rich-guy born with a silver spoon, while the other is the poor-guy born to parents struggling with money. The rich-guy and poor-guy eventually go to the same school. There they are given a task to get a monetary contribution for the school's funds. The poor-guy dreads asking his father because he had always seen him struggling for money. The rich-guy is all cool about the money part as he knows that the contribution would be a breeze for his father. So, here are two examples of the past. The same situation, the same element (money), and yet two different experiences based on the past. So, who’s past is right?
When you look at it this way, you realize that the one who feels dreadful about money looking at his past will continue to be dreadful, and the chances are that his future will also be dreadful around money. The opposite is true for the rich-guy. So, the logical thing is to look at the past for learning, not for propagating restrictions.
The Law of Attraction and the Past
From our previous example, looking back is not bad when looking at the past leads to progressive thinking or freedom. However, when the past puts restrictions on you, it is better to let go of that past. The good part is that we can let go of the past that does not serve us anymore. In other words, whenever the poor-guy wants, he can just learn from his past and conclude that he is good enough and deserving to have money. The old chapter of the past can be closed, and a new beginning in abundance can be started.
Incidentally, this is what the Law of Attraction (LoA) also teaches. Wherever we want, we can start afresh and look forward to things unfolding. The problem here is our obsession with looking at the past. Let’s look at the poor-guy from our earlier example.
Assume he is working today and wants to earn more than what he had done in the past. He is good at his work and wants to progress in life. But when he looks at his past for examples of growth, you can bet that he would find very few to none. In such cases, some may jump to the conclusion that things hadn’t worked in the past, and hence we should give up. This is where we are giving up on ourselves and, in doing so, live the past again and expect the future to be like the past. See the vicious cycle we would have got ourselves into? This is the exact opposite of how the Law of Attraction (LoA) would work.
It Did Not Work Before Syndrome
As we just saw, when we look at the past and conclude that whatever we had done or achieved in the past is our limit, then we give in to the “it did not work in the past” syndrome. It is our way of looking for assurance from the past and then concluding that something works or does not. But if the poor-guy from our example looks at his past for money, he would not see much money. Should he conclude that money is something he cannot earn and therefore submit himself to that conclusion? It sounds odd and incorrect, right? Then why would we subject ourselves to such a disadvantageous past?
This is where we need to believe the past is only for learning and not for deriving judgments. We are limitless beings, and therefore we have limitless potential to achieve whatever we want whenever we want. So, the poor-guy can start afresh now and believe he can be a millionaire. And focus on how he would feel having all that money and how he would spend, give, and invest his money. In doing so, he will create a new present and a future. This is where he comes in alignment with “Ask, and It Is Given,” and is in line with the LoA to bring him his prosperous future.
So, that’s the Learning
Believe you can create a favorable future right now, right here, and look at that pleasant future from that point of view. The LoA is a tool that will assist you and amplify your belief. Use it as a beacon to attract all that you want. And if ever, you have to look at your past, look at it for gratitude, learning, and good things that had been. That’s all the past should serve and no more.
Have fun creating your present and your future!
