HELLO EVERYONE
Today, I will be sharing the first part of a topic that has been crossing my thought for a while now. I grow up knowing learning differently, but since I have been a teacher, I have slowly unlearn some of the methods used by my teachers while I was a kid, and observe and try to understand the modern day learners. I for one did not study Education in school, but I need to be in the Education sector to fix some things, truth be told, so many things are not done right when it comes to Education in this part of the world where I'm from.
As the world we live in changes to embrace tech futures, how and what we teach in our education system will also be reshaped to keep up to date with the growing demands of the 21st century. Equipping students for this brave new world will require teachers to have a mix of skills that have always been the mark of a good teacher, alongside newer traits that will help students thrive in the 21st century. Today, I will be sharing five of those skills that every future teacher will need to help better the learning for the learners.
FIVE SKILLS THAT EVERY FUTURE TEACHER WILL NEED
1. GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT
A teacher is not just someone who can recite facts and rules. They must be someone who knows a subject well enough to understand what students can discover for themselves and what they need help with, enabling them to reach a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Teaching students to develop themselves, to learn facts, and learn how to use them will be essential so that they can develop the lifelong learning skills they will likely need as part of the workforce of the future.
2. BEING A GOOD FACILITATOR AND GOOD COMMUNICATOR
Facilitating learning and communicating effectively is not only important to encourage young people to be lifelong learners. It is also important for improving the skills that will make students Successful at work. The idea of critical thinking should be a thing for the students, teachers enabling learners to actually think out of the box. Also, good communication among themselves during lessons, collaboration during school tasks and creativity during lessons should help equip their mind, that way they see learning to be fun. The role of teacher as a facilitator and communicator cannot be overemphasized.
3. GOOD SOCIAL SKILLS
Teachers need to be experts at encouraging the social aspects of learning, not just to the students alone, but also to fellow colleagues. The ability to work as a team must be in every teacher, also the ability to make good decisions and solve problems, and the ability to communicate verbally with the learners inside and outside of the classroom.
4. APPLYING LEARNING TO REAL WORLD SITUATIONS
In other to develop the desired traits and skills, teachers are going to need to become more focused on learning outside school walls. Imagine a learning approach where the students get direct instructions delivered to them as video content to be viewed before the lessons, this will actually free up class time for activities that allow deeper exploration of content. The traditional form of learning were the lesson take place in the class and exercise are done at home can be adjusted a bit. This method prevent the learners from actually having time to communicate their thoughts. Learning shouldn't be limited to the classroom alone, the students should take learning with them on the go, and while in school, they should be involved more in creative activities in form of exercises to better explain the lessons.
5. DATA ANALYSIS
Teachers need to use data analysis to spot students having difficulties and help them to achieve their potential. Once in a while, evaluation of the learners will be nice, that way, the teacher have an idea of the areas they are having these challenges and work towards helping them to understand and do better.
The world is changing everyday, and the methods of learning from the old days clearly can not apply to the world of these modern learners.
