Russia and Ukraine held several rounds of talks in Belarus last month, but last week delegations from the two countries met in Istanbul, Turkey.

Following the meeting, Moscow announced that it would "drastically" reduce its military operations around the cities of Kyiv and Chernivtsi. In fact, in recent days, Russian troops have begun to withdraw constantly from the northern regions of Ukraine.

Negotiator David Arakhamia told Ukrainian television that the time and place of the meeting were unknown.

Both sides described the negotiations in recent days as difficult. The talks are a combination of face-to-face meetings in Turkey and virtual meetings.

Russia has so far rejected the idea of a summit of Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, arguing that it must first advance negotiations.
