Axie Infinity es un juego que involucra tecnología blockchain, basado en NFTs o tokens. ¿A qué se refiere con tokens? Consiste en tener o comprar una mascota virtual que viene siendo una barajita única, lo que permite la creación de un mercado económico donde las personas pueden jugar para ganar criptomonedas con la compra o venta de sus objetos entre la comunidad de jugadores.
Lanzado en 2018 por el desarrollador vietnamita Sky Mavis, Axie Infinity está inspirado en Pokémon.
Actualmente tiene más de 350.000 usuarios diarios activos y alrededor del 40% de ellos se encuentran en Filipinas, Venezuela y Estados Unidos.
Los desarrolladores de Axie buscan crear un modelo de juego play-to-earn (jugar para ganar). Esto significa que la plataforma recompensa con dinero a sus usuarios por estar en la plataforma y hacer crecer la comunidad de Axie.
