There was a time when Smartphones were actually smart, now they have the Notch

Notch is by far the most useless thing on a smartphone

The whole idea behind it is to fix something that isn't broke.

What?

By The Notch, I am referring to all the iterations the bathtub, the water drop as well as the punch hole.

How?

The idea is to make a phone look good by reducing the screen to body ratio.

Why?

You don't get any benefit from it, there is no use of a notch. In fact it actually reduces functionality.

With the new designs the problem arrises when assetetics trump over practality and common sense

With the notch you lose some of the screen real estate that has to be in the software, and while you can get by it why should anyone be happy with getting less usability.

Further, the software optimization doesn't always work. While the home screen, notification bar and OS menu may we well optimized if the phone is an expensive flagship. Not all apps work well, in non-rectangle shapes.

If you are viewing a video in some app it may or may not have pinch to reduce the aspect so that you could actually watch it wholly.

Even if you do that you are still ignoring the so called screen to body ratio and going back to the practicality.

This issue is more prevalent when playing games and the game is set to fit to the screen, like any normal program would do.

There by you are missing some of the game play.

In everyday usage you may not notice it until it obstruct something important.

Perhaps a video where someone points to a object that should be in the frame and is cut of because of the screen's shape.

Or an important part of a live event like a sport match is obstructed by it.

Or a video game which has some of its control is cut off.

Some app developers do take this issue at hand and optimize the app

But there is no sure shot solution to fix all the weird displays

When through it can we optimized to the fullest, why do we even have such an impractical design that actually doesn't bring any new functionality.

The solution

Again it is up to the manufacturers to improve there designs and make good phones again.

But these smartphone manufacturers make some of the worst changes and have these Tech Influences on YouTube push the people to believe that how they need a slightly faster chip or more megapixel camera. While losing hardware functions like headphone jack and expandable memory card slot sound like progress.

Its all about the money...
