This is going to be my first post.
And I'm dedicating this to the boys who made quarantine life tolerable.
My introduction post will come sooner, because my excitement to write about them comes first.
November 2020 - the day when the doors of the magic shop decided to open for me. I was busy scrolling through my timeline, when I came across a video that my friend shared. It was a fancam of WinterBear. He sang and danced majestically - this left me in awe, and like being in a trance, I started googling about this group - BTS.
I was an avid K-pop fan back in high school. I even wrote an article entitled 'Riding the Halyu Wave', since Korean idols were on a rise. However when I started college and medschool, I was so busy that I was left behind with the massive growth of the kpop industry.
Fast forward to 2020, the year when the world stopped. Streets were empty, nearby cities were like ghost towns, and even the slightest magic of Disney was put out. Everyday felt the same, everything was in routine. I was basically on my phone the entire day, watching Dalgona and TikTok covers.
It started feeling empty. Life was slowly creeping even if I was reading for the board exam. It was an odd and an endless void that can't be filled.
That is why I am so grateful that the day came when I would meet them. There is this aura that lures you to a parallel universe, on that is comforting and filled with fun.
I started watching their RUN BTS episodes, followed facebook pages that are BTS-related, and got to know them one by one. RM, the leader - kind and dependable; Kim Seok Jin, the eldest and the funniest; Min Yoongi - cool but a cutie; Jung Hoseok (J-hope) - everyone's sunshine and a ray of hope; Park Jimin - the greatest 'chingu' and looks out for everybody; Kim Taehyung - the child at heart who loves photography; and Jeon Jungkook - the golden maknae who excels at everything.
Collectively, I call them my bulletproof boys because from what I have read, they have been through a lot since training and debut, endured difficulties, and yet came out victorious - even landing a nomination in the prestigious Grammys.
Other armies might disagree with how I describe them, but this is how I see them.
Since then, I have been following them and has been inspired. During my reading breaks, I would pull out a video and watch them and this will fill me with energy. One that tells me to keep going.
Never in my life have I imagined that I will be an Army. There is so much more to learn about them, I am just a neophyte. But like they said, when BTS knows it's your time, they will knock on your hearts and one day you will wake up as part of the family. I have also introduced some of my friends to the group, and that's when you know that BTS is not only there for music. They are there to build bonds that are meant for lifetimes.
I am thankful that I was born in the same era as them, and that I am able to enjoy the happiness they share to the world. I pray that they will be blessed with endless joy and good health. Because during this dark time, they served as the light. And just as their songs says 'Like an echo in the forest, the day will come back around as if nothing happened. Yeah life goes on', I will keep on going where the road takes me and stay motivated by their music and genuineness.
And when the darkness falls and when everything is back to normal again - no masks or restrictions in place - I can't wait to see them on stage again, conquering the world. While me, I'm part of the sea of purple, waving my army bomb and singing to their songs.
Borahae, my BTS. 💜💜💜
