What is CPU?
The CPU is an electronic chip that acts as the main brain of the computer. It receives data and instructions from input devices and memory units and processes them to provide our output. It is very square in shape, with many small pins or round, metallic connectors underneath. It is through these connectors that the CPU inputs and outputs data and instructions. The CPU is usually located on a CPU socket on the motherboard.
How the CPU works
The way the CPU works is a lot like our brain. Just as our brains have different parts for different functions, so the CPU has different parts for different functions. The CPU has three parts in total, these are ALU (Arithmetic Logical Unit), CU (Control Unit), and Memory Unit. ALU basically processes all the mathematical processes of the computer, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, etc. The CU controls the other units of the computer and the memory unit stores all the data.
