Call of The "Void"

Ever had that urge to jump while standing on top of a tall place? Be it a terrace, a rooftop of your school, or just on top of a cliff. I remember just sitting on a terrace with my legs hanging outside the safety bars, and when I look down I get the urge to just jump, this sent my mind into a spiral craze and wondered what I just felt. People say this is the "Call of The Void" and there are fascinating thoughts about it.

Most people would assume the most obvious reasons at first. It could just be the stress of dealing with life, having suicidal tendencies, or lacking the feeling or experience of thrill. These kinds of reasons make a ton of sense if you take it at face-value, only after doing a little bit of research behind it that you find out it is just a warning sign to preserve our ephemeral life, an instinct that positively serves our will to live.

The science behind the "Call of The Void" is that our mind suddenly sense the danger of being at such a tall height that it sends you messages to go back down where it is safe, and the safest place to be is of course... the ground. Unfortunately, this leads to the feeling of getting that urge to jump because the fastest way down to the ground would be falling back down. This also explains the reason why we only get such urge when we look down from a tall height, and it disappears once we look at something else or even just take a step back. Isn't it ironic? Our minds wanting us to go to safety as fast as possible by taking the least safest route, and all of this to satisfy the obsession with preserving our will to live.
