Escapism

The doom of the human race will not be brought about by its indulgence with greed, lust, and inhumanity. Rather, it’s the escapism in mortals that will cause the civilization to collapse.

Escapism is that fickle act that mortals indulge in, to shut their minds off temporarily so they can evade their individual realities.

The irony is somewhere the mortals are aware of this act of escapism. That’s when the justification comes into play. Holy Scriptures, Ancient folklores, Quotes from Legends; everything is cited in defense of this act. From Local Idols to Religious Gods, everyone is roped in as role models. Just so that one can justify one’s act of escapism. So, basically, it’s escapism from acknowledging the escapism.

Never has a mortal every questioned self why there feels a need to escape. And what is it that one wants to escape from.

Those who did no longer remained ordinary mortals. They transcended to another realm of self-realization. However, society is made of up ordinary mortals. Ones that have accepted Escapism as a universal remedy to their unflinching, harsh realities.

As individuals, every mortal experiences a series of incidents that are constantly categorized as good, bad or ugly. This act of labeling results from centuries-old conditioning of the human race.

As natural, the mortals breathe, eat or sleep, they label too. And with the labeling comes the accounting of experiences. Too many good incidents in a row, the mortal convinces oneself to be happy. Too many untoward incidents and the mortal would believe one is unhappy. Too many ugly incidents and one considers oneself as unfortunate. Now, irrespective of what incidents, bad, ugly or even good since it’s labeled a constant set of similar patterns of incidents eventually become mundane.

And escapism is basically the act of avoiding the mundane. This is because the conscious mind is incapable of accepting what is and is on the constant drive towards what should be. This subconscious inclination towards the ideal experience because of the intrinsic desire to evade the random genuine experience the mortals are going through, which to the mortals is both overwhelming and unacceptable.

But the question then arises, what if these new experiences that the mortals are seeking turns out to be mundane? Will they go out hunting for yet another new experience, which is also likely to become mundane eventually? Then where will this hunt end? Finally, how far and how long will the mortals run to escape the inescapable reality?
