Today I am going to comment on a rodent of our fauna, the Cuniculus paca, known in Venezuela as lapa and in other countries as guagua, tepezcuintle, guanta, goruga gualilla, spotted rabbit, it is a rodent that is located from the southeast of Mexico to the In northern Argentina at altitudes below 2,000 meters above sea level, its main threat is hunting by man and the destruction of habitat due to deforestation. They measure between 60 and 80 centimeters in length with a height of about 35 centimeters and weigh between 6 and 10 kilograms, with a large head, short ears, large eyes, the gestation lasts about 150 days and they give birth between 1 and 3 young, they can change the hue of its color from lighter to darker depending on its place of habitat. They are nocturnal animals, they feed on vegetables, they are good swimmers and runners, they do not go far from their burrows where they spend the day, they go in pairs or alone, they are very territorial.
