Safe school reopening bill be passed into law

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools have been closed and the education system has been forced to adapt to online mode of learning. Online mode of learning may have kept the students safe but in most cases Filipino students are unable to access due to their internet connection and signal connectivity. Education should be one of the priorities of the government as part of their recovery plans making it accessible for the students. Safe school reopening bill should be the top priority, especially in this time, schools will always be the safe place for learning. As the 2nd speaker, i will be talking about the beneficiality if this bill would be turned into a law.

The online mode of learning may affect the future of Filipino students. “Unplanned and rapid move to online learning – with no training, insufficient bandwidth, and little preparation – will result in a poor user experience that is unconducive to sustained growth.” says Wang Tao, Vice President of Tencent Cloud and Vice President of Tencent Education. Some may say that digital learning may further accelerate the integration of education but let’s be real, Philippines’ technology is not that advanced and even the government was not that ready to adapt to this mode of learning. Consider the fact that it may affect those who are in the tertiary level once they are in the workfield. Without face-to-face classes, this increases the risk of the students getting left behind. With this reason, safe school reopening promotes human and educational rights. Once passed into law, the students will be able to learn in-person instructions and to regain and develop their social skills and emotional connection to one another. School contributes to the moral character and development of a child. Safe school reopening would also promote health care rights. With this law, it covers the treatment and ventilation allocation in terms of health risks and the health workers would also benefit from this because this would also lessen their potential burdens. Lastly, this encourages us to get vaccinated resulting in a low risk of getting infected.

Certify as urgent and pass House Bill 10398 or the Safe School Reopening Bill. “A community-based, people-oriented, grassroots-level response to the pandemic shall be in place. The students shall also be included and involved in all levels of education-related pandemic response and recovery steps,” according to the bill. Schools exist for the benefit of children because schools affect their moral development and the common good of the society. This does not just benefit the students but also the teachers as well as the country and its future.
