The atmosphere surrounding the earth is made up of many layers. Each layers serves an important purpose for the sustence of life on earth. Research has revealed that these layers have the function of returning the materials or rays they are exposed to back into space or back down to the earth.

The lowest layers is the troposphere, which is up to about 10km at the poles and about 17km at the equator above earth's surface. The function of this layer is that it sends back water vapor rising from the surface of the earth to the earth as rain.

The next layer to troposphere is stratosphere, which extends from 10 to 17km to about 45km above the ground. It is the part of the atmosphere in which the ozone layer lies. Ozone layer is a layer of oxygen build as a result of photo dissociation of oxygen atoms when sun's ultraviolet rays ordinary oxygen molecules; this is caused by some gases called green house gases.
