A hill is a landform that extends over the surrounding terrain. It is often a distinct peak, although a hill in an area with steep / sloping topography may refer to a specific section of flat terrain without a huge peak (e.g. Box Hill, Surrey).
The difference between a hill and a mountain is obvious and largely subjective, but a hill is always lower than a mountain and considered less steep than a mountain.
