Siargao Island is located in the province of Surigao del Norte. It is considered to be one of the biggest mangrove forest reserves in Mindanao. It has an area of 437 square kilometers. It consists of 48 islands distributed into nine municipalities : San Isidro, Santa Monica, Burgos, Gen. luna, Pilar, San Benito, Dapa, Del Carmen, and Socorro. This island also has a prospective for seaweed propagation. The island is surrounded by coral reefs, and tons of coconut palms. Trivia : The name "Siargao" came from the visayan translation "siargaw or saliargaw" which is actually a specie of mangrove that exists in the island.

Hailed as the Surfing capital of the Philippines, Siargao is being visited for surfing and playing with the waves.
