People are pretty good at drinking water.

In reality, remaining hydrated is the best performing habit.

Let 's begin with the obvious: you're just a glorified water balloon.

I'm not joking, more than 60 percent of your body weight is sweat. And when you cut out your bones, the amount is more than 70%.

Water is the internet of the body, too. From your nerves, to your hair, to your hormones, basically anything about your body needs water to get something done.

No wonder then that if the percentage of water in your body decreases to ~57 per cent (5-8 per cent loss) you will start feeling exhausted and dizzy. By 54 percent (10 percent loss) you're a mess. And by the time your body mass reaches 51 percent of the water (-15%) you're essentially gone.

Obvious inference, huh? Drinking water is really important. It's a really easy habit of mastering and getting on top of it won't just keep you safe, it'll help you get the big stuff finished.

What happens as you drink some of the water

Here are a couple of the advantages you'll get from drinking more water:

  1. You're going to get more competitive – keeping hydrated maximizes physical performance;

  2. You'll immediately get wiser – Even a mild dehydration impacts on brain function;

  3. You can be more energetic – the body is better able to carry sugars and nutrients;

  4. You'll get a better look – keeping hydrated keeps your skin fresh, smooth and glowing;

  5. You'll be better – you'll reduce the possibility of anything from headaches and kidney stones to cancer and constipation;

  6. You will (optionally) lose weight – your stomach will be fuller, your appetite will improve, and you will have less room for sugary drinks.

As I said, this isn't a brainer.

How much water are you supposed to drink in a day?

Official reports suggest roughly 3.7 liters (15.5 cups) a day for men and 2.7 liters (11.5 cups) for women (including food water).

And while that's a decent starting point, it's really trash, too.

The truth is, how much you can drink depends on a whole lot of things. It depends on who you are, where you are, how hot you are, how healthy you are, what else you eat and drink, and also your altitude.

The most accurate way to verify hydration is to look at the color of your urine.

How to drink more of the water ...

Here are four quick steps that you should take to start drinking more water:

  1. Buy a bottle of water – keep it ready and ready for you for the day.

  2. Eat more fruit and vegetables – most of them have a 90% plus water content;

  3. Render hydration a necessity, a habit.
