WhatsApp is an instant messaging app it's available for multiple platforms such as Android Apple or blackberry WhatsApp was founded by Brian Acton and Jan koum 2x Yahoo employees while talking about new app ideas with friend Alex Fishman Jan koum chose the name WhatsApp Jan koum Incorporated WhatsApp Inc on the 24th of February 2009 which is also his birthday WhatsApp is intended to be a play on the phrase What's up
