When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges in israel. His firstborn son was named joel, and the other abijah. Both were tried in Beersheba. But the sons were not like the father, they were dishonest, they took bribes and preverted justice.Because of all this, the elders of israel gathered to samuel in ramah. They told him, You are old ,and your sons are not like you. Therefore appoint a king to lead us , as all other nations have .Samuel did not like what they asked , Give us a king to us . So he went to pray to GOD. then GOD said to him , listen to everything the people tell you. They did not reject you, but they rejected me as their king. They did the same thing when I brought them out of Egypt to this day. They left me and served other gods .That s how they work for you now. listen to them ,but warn them seriously . Explain to them what the king who rule over them will do . But he also said to them , This is how the king who will rule over you will take your sons to serve him chariots and horses , and to run before him as protection. Some of them will be appointed commanders over units of a thousand soldiers , and some over fifty soldiers. others will determine to cultivate his land and reap the harvest .some will agin be tasked with making him war weapons and chariot equipment . He will take your daughters to prepare scents for him, to cook and bake for him. they will take your best fields , vineyards and olive groves and give them to their servants. they will take a tenth of your grain and greapes and give them to their servants. he will take your servants and mainds , and your best cattle and donkeys to serve him. it will also take a tenth of your small cattle . in fact, you will become his slaves. and then you will cry out for the king you have chosen for yourself, but GOD will not answer you then. The people would not listen to samuel, but said , no we want the king to rule us so we will be like all other nations. the king will be our judge and leader, and he will wage our.
