Hey Friends! Today, we're going to be talking about how to compare car insurance rates. Every auto insurance company calculates premiums differently,  so comparing car insurance rates can save you hundreds of dollars each year.

As a general rule,  you should compare car insurance quotes before you purchase a policy and then do it again when it’s time to renew your policy, in order to make sure that you’re getting the best deal.

How to Compare Car Insurance

Now that you know more about why it’s important to compare car insurance quotes and when to do it, here are four tips to help you get started.

  • First, compare quotes from at least three different insurers when shopping for coverage. In addition to national insurers, you should also get quotes from regional companies, since they might offer the lowest premiums in your area.

  • When you’re comparing quotes, don’t forget to factor in discounts. Most major insurance companies offer a variety of car insurance discounts based on your policy, vehicle, and personal characteristics. For example, all major insurers offer a good driver discount, which lowers your rate if you go a certain amount of time without an accident or moving violation.

  • Next, be sure to compare the same coverage levels between companies. You should decide how much coverage you want to purchase prior to comparing quotes so that you can keep the policy details consistent as you shop.

  • And finally, have your information ready as you shop. To compare quotes tailored to your specific needs, you’ll need information about your car,  including its vehicle identification number and current mileage. You’ll also need your driver’s license number, contact information, and details about your driving and coverage history.
