This week’s battle challenge focuses on the Temporal Master.

• Recharge ability - This Monster attacks every other round but does 3x damage.

The artwork in splinterlands NFTs keeps getting better with every new edition released. I love theorizing the influences behind the artwork and coming up with stories I can convey in the blog. Doctor Strange wields arcane magic in the same way that Temporal Master shows off in its artwork. For those that aren't aware, Doctor Strange, a brilliant surgeon, and neurosurgeon in the 60s, becomes the Sorcerer Supreme when he's stricken with a tragic disease. The Temporal Master sets itself apart from Doctor Strange and, more importantly, from other magic monsters by having the Recharge ability to deal triple magic damage when procced. The key is to protect it enough times for it to proc this ability numerous times in battles.

• Grandmaster Rathe (Summoner): +1 armor to all friendly monsters as well as other armor ability buffs (Void and Amplify)

• Uriel the Purifier: primary melee tank due to high armor, high health.

• Gargoya Scrapper + Chaos Agent: backline meatshields.

• Djinn Renova + Temporal Master: primary magic damage + team health buffs.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

It's fair to say that my opponent outsmarted and outplayed me in this battle, and it goes to show that even if you have higher-level monsters, it won't guarantee a win. I struggled in a few battles to get the Temporal Master to survive long enough to proc Recharge ability. Majority of the battles, it survived only long enough to proc Recharge ability once. Also, it didn't help that I was coming up against opponents doubling up on Sneak monsters like Tenyii Striker and Uraeus. This battle was the closest I got to victory, but I fell at the last hurdle in the end.

Do you like the Temporal Master? Why or why not?

I struggled in many battles to keep the Temporal Master alive long enough for it to unleash a barrage of magic damage. It's the monster you either don't play with or need to max it out to get the most out of it. It's a tough one; the Recharge ability is so powerful, but the lack of health on the Temporal Master makes it challenging to get the most out of the ability. The other perspective is that the Temporal Master should only be used in specific rulesets and low mana cap battles. I will explore this in the forthcoming weeks as I like the artwork and the Recharge ability.
