Another week has passed in my challenge to owning a complete Chaos Legion Regular Foil Set and Land, and I will closely monitor and transparently share all details about the challenge in these posts.

Owning a Complete Chaos Legion Regular Foil Set and Land – Update 11

As someone who's been playing splinterlands for over three years and has accounts worth over $10k, it's concerning to hear about security breaches like the one that happened last weekend. The splinterlands team announced that 6 million SPS and 8 million DEC were lost due to compromised wallets no longer being used. They assured us it was a relatively minor incident, but it still resulted in a loss of around $180k to $195k.

The breach happened because a third-party service was compromised, not due to splinterlands' security. However, the affected accounts have been reviewed and locked down, and the team has said it's unlikely to impact the game currently in use. Still, it's a reminder to practice and evaluate your own personal security protocols occasionally. The splinterlands team will also reevaluate their security protocols in light of this incident.

As to this week's update on Land. I have been working through the Land whitepaper and trying to understand it. While reading it, I realized that I would not only acquire funds to purchase a Land plot but also need a minimum of +/- 25k DEC:

• 10k DEC to purchase a starter package.

• 15k (or more) DEC to stake cards to the Land plot (I don't have maxed level cards)

Whether the return will be worth having this amount of DEC staked to the Land – the question still begs to be asked whether it will be worth it. I don't know what I have been trying to focus on when working through the Land whitepaper, but it's unclear. Peakmonster does have a land calc which allows you to play around with different combinations and generate Production Points. Still, we don't know what these outputs will be worth, so difficult to quantify an expected return.

However, reading through the whitepaper, I was reminded about a web3 game, PROSPECTORS (on the WAX blockchain), that I played during the height of the crypto NFT Bullrun in 2021. For the uninformed, it's an online blockchain real-time strategy game where players can utilize workers to build buildings and work the lands to produce gold. For such a simple context, I found it overly complicated (in terms of the UI), but it wasn't inspiring. I hope that Land functionality doesn't go down the same road, and if it does, that's okay, as there is always the core card game mechanics, which still is fun, challenging, and rewarding.

Onto the tokenomics of Land, we see some Land assets increase in price, e.g., the cheapest Common Land is $69 (nice!). In contrast, some other Land assets have come down from their inflated evaluations, e.g., the cheapest Magical Land is now $260, a $39 price drop in a week. Also, I can't recall which YouTube video I watched, but in the video, they said that a Castle Land NFT had sold for $16k, which is mind-bogglingly. Still, I haven't been able to verify that as I can't quickly locate the market history for Land Assets.

Onto the funds needed for the challenge, I have been doing more dedicated savings towards purchasing a Land asset. After moving things around and getting a better grip on crypto finances, I have the following liquid funds ready to dedicate to the challenge:

• $26.12 HBD (in savings)

• 9150 DEC

• 366 SPS (liquid)

Almost another $25 was added to the Land asset purchase fund, making good progress. Regarding what Land asset I would like to purchase? Either a magical or occupied Land plot. But as I said, it's difficult to say what will be profitable.
