The splinterlands team have set out a new challenge for the splinterlands community. The challenge is for everyone in the community to write about their splinterlands journey.

Where It All Began

My splinterlands journey began in 2020 when a post by @costanza caught my eye. I couldn’t believe that I was reading – a crypto game where you can earn crypto, and cards have a value which you could sell. The allure was undeniable, sparking a personal journey that has manifested into over three hundred posts dedicated to splinterlands over the past three years.

Three Years Deep Into Splinterlands

I have been playing splinterlands now for 3 years. When I joined, I recall the Untamed set was just released and the community was in upheaval then about the new Collection Power requirements. There were also a lot of discussions about the big whale sell-off. I cannot recall the account's exact name – had a twelve in it. This player had a massive bot farm and was controlling the market due to the substantial amounts of cards he kept on dumping. The one constant thing – there is always something happening in the splinterlands ecosystem. I am just grateful to be part of it.

Time Investment

The splinterlands ecosystem is wide and does require a certain investment of time every week. On average, I spend between 30 minutes to one hour per day within the ecosystem. From playing the game, writing about the game, consuming content (videos, articles) and engaging with others on the game – it does take a bit of time, but I would not have it any other way. Also, splinterlands has been a gateway to helping me discover Hive, Leofinance/InLeo and other crypto games.

Achievements Unlocked

I have published over three hundred blog posts which stand as a testament to my commitment to sharing my splinterlands journey. I am very proud of the challenge of opening 1k Chaos Legion packs – financially not the best of decisions, but I have never undertaken a challenge like that before and felt good completing it. This challenge served as a gateway to other challenges such as owning two plots of Land and my current challenge which is owning a Runi. Finally, I am close to reaching 50k SPS staked which is another huge milestone for me.

Favorite Cards

Over the years there have been a few cards which have captured a special place in my splinterlands collection.

Lord Arianthus – my favorite card of all time, an overpowered no-attack tank which is stubborn to kill and can damage back with many counterattacks.
Spirit of the Forest – took me a month of saving all crypto blogging rewards to purchase a few BCX to level it up to level 3. I still cherish this card to this day.
Prismatic Energy – still boggles the mind that this was a reward card that I earned for free and still often use it due to its high health, decent damage, and good abilities.

A Glimpse into the Future

Even with 300+ blog posts, I am still learning about the splinterlands game and ecosystem. There is always something new (new meta or new proposal) or something happening in the splinterlands game and ecosystem. And the splinterlands game has endured a very tough crypto bear market but with all the changes of late (new CEO, company split, successful Rebellion set pre-sale, etc.), I think splinterlands has started to rebuild itself and lay solid foundations with a focus on sustainability of the game and the company, which instils me with a positive outlook and renewed motivation to continue to invest time and effort into the game.

For long readers of my content, my focus over the past 1.5 years has shifted towards challenges within the splinterlands game. Opening 1,000 Chaos Legion packs was a monumental feat for me, but the current endeavor is interesting - acquiring a Runi NFT. I have been starting to plan the next challenge which will revolve around acquiring a complete Rebellion set, not through pack openings but by purchasing cards from the secondary market.

Advice For New Players

For new and old players in the splinterlands game, consistency is key—complete your dailies, seasons, and brawls. Yet, the advice also transcends past the game. Get involved in the splinterlands community by engaging in the content creation challenges and share your journey. I am almost 100% sure that I would not be as far in my splinterlands journey if I were relying purely on outside investment.
