Melee Mayhem Ruleset Battle Mage Secrets | Splinterlands #299
This week’s battle mage secrets on the Melee Mayhem Ruleset.
Ruleset Details
The Melee Mayhem ruleset allows Melee monsters who are often confined to positions one and two in battles, can now be deployed across all the battle positions. In this ruleset, a variety of abilities can prove effective – Bloodlust, Enrage, Poison, and Retaliate abilities all have opportunities to shine. For example, melee monsters with Bloodlust ability (Grum Flameblade) become more potent as the battle goes on as long as they can survive. Also, abilities like Flying and Dodge assist on the defensive side to evade the likelihood of more melee damage from the opposition. Another thing to consider is utilizing summoners that provide melee damage buffs becomes increasingly important (Malric Inferno, Tarsa, and Daria Dragonscale). And a final piece of advice – don’t ignore magic damage!

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
Do as I say and not as I do and this battle showcased why you shouldn’t ignore magic damage in the Melee Mayhem ruleset. The low-mana cap and Even Stevens ruleset did limit my options but that didn’t stop me from fielding a full melee monster lineup. Going with a legendary summoner maybe was not the best decision as that additional mana cap could’ve been the difference in the battle – probably not. My opposition also went with a legendary summoner who had the Shatter ability which proved pivotal as the blow that its magic monster dealt shattered Gargoya Lion’s armor and the battle was over at that moment.
Do you like the Melee Mayhem ruleset? Why or why not?
The first rule of Melee Mayhem is to not forget about magic monsters in this ruleset and I am guilty of this all the time. As soon as I encounter Melee Mayhem, I put my blinders on and fill the entire backline of high health, high armor, and high melee damage monsters. And many of my losses in this ruleset are against opposition who don’t ignore magic damage. Nonetheless, I love playing Melee Mayhem as there are so many melee monsters who can’t feature in many battles get a chance to feature as they can attack from any position in the battle.
