When I started playing Splinterlands in July 2020, I made a small purchase of splinterlands cards from the market. Today, I wanted to look back and see how those cards have performed and look at how that small investment compares to Hive, Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Firstly, let's set the scene. The splinterlands marketcap has increased 4x since the day I made that small purchase.

Splinterlands Purchases
As mentioned above, on July 31st 2020, I wrote a post detailing a small ~$5 investment I made in purchasing 19 cards from the marketplace. As I mentioned in the post, I predominately based my purchases on:
Summoners
Neutral monsters
Reward monsters with a %printed between 60 – 85%
2021/06/01 Update
Granted, it doesn't come as a surprise as most splinterlands cards have been increasing of late, but it is still cool to see that the average increase has been close to 3.4x. I am kicking myself for not purchasing more Silvershield Assassins and Screeching Vultures whose prices have seen a ten-fold increase in price! It is crazy to think that these were reward cards dropped to players until they went out of print.
How does it compare to Hive, Bitcoin and Ethereum?
A fun exercise I wanted to undertake was to compare the ~$5 value if I had purchased Hive, Bitcoin or Ethereum on 2020/07/31 instead.
That small investment in splinterlands card outperformed BTC and Hive! Nonetheless, Ethereum outperformed the splinterlands card by almost two times.
Conclusion
Even though the scale of the investment was tiny, it still was a fun exercise to do and solidify the growth that splinterlands continue to undergo over the past year. There is much more to come from the splinterlands team with lands and the SPS governance token release. Finally, this post should be not be seen as financial advice.
