If you are opening packs, and don't care what actual cards you have, then it's okay to buy and open Splinterlands packs. On the other hand, purchasing single cards will help you in your ranked battle matches immediately.

I focused primarily on the bronze and silver leagues as most new Splinterlands players will be playing in those leagues
