Going the Distance Weekly Battle Challenge | Splinterlands #283
This week’s battle challenge focuses on the Going the Distance Ruleset.
Ruleset Details
The Going the Distance ruleset imposes certain limitations on players, allowing them to use only monsters with ranged attacks in battles. It goes without saying that this ruleset presents players with specific challenges and constraints. In splinterlands, ranged monsters are unable to attack from the first position unless they possess the Close Range ability. Moreover, their attacks generally lack the power of melee and magic attacks. These factors, coupled with the limited availability of summoners with buffs for ranged monsters, make careful planning essential when navigating the Going the Distance ruleset. One effective strategy in this ruleset involves prioritizing speed to strike the opponent first. By eliminating one or two enemy monsters before they can retaliate, you significantly reduce the number of attacks against your team, thereby increasing your chances of victory. Additionally, incorporating monsters with the Close Range ability, such as the Gargoya Devil, allows ranged monsters to attack from the tank position. To further enhance the tank's survival, pairing it with a Tank Heal monster like the Crustacean King creates a synergistic combo.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
This battle exemplifies the statistical reality that if David were to fight Goliath a hundred times, he would lose 99 times, but that one victory would be celebrated for centuries! Unfortunately, I stood no chance against an opponent who deployed the legendary summoner Lux Vega, bolstering their already overpowering range monsters. Facing off against Cornealus and Queen of Crows with the Lux Vega summoner, I had no hope of defeating them. Despite Cornealus being unable to attack, its abilities (Heal, Thorns, Return Fire) and high health make it an ideal choice for a tank with no offensive capabilities. There's not much else to say except to savor the taste of defeat against a vastly superior opponent.
Do you like the Going the Distance ruleset? Why or why not?
Playing with the limitation of using only range monsters necessitates having a diverse collection with various abilities to exploit the constraints imposed by the ruleset. New players quickly learn that range monsters cannot attack from the first position unless they possess the Close Range ability. However, if you embrace these restrictions and seek opportunities and strategies within your collection to secure victory, it can prove beneficial. As longtime readers of my blogs may know, I am not particularly fond of rulesets that restrict card choices, so for me, this ruleset evokes mixed sentiments.
