The Gloridax Soldiers brings back many good memories for me as it was one of the earlier battle challenge posts I did going all the back to blog post number 4. In the post, I mentioned that I had purchased it off the market, and it was a great addition to lead the frontline of my attack. Oh, how naïve I was back then and thankfully have learnt a lot. The Gloridax Soldier is a low-to-mid-tier melee tank. It has enough health and armour to aid in its survivability and just about enough damage to inflict some damage on its opponent. Still, unfortunately, it doesn’t do enough to command a higher tier status. The battle below will highlight this further.
Battle - Full Battle Replay
Battle Details
Mana cap: 17
Rulesets(s): Earthquake, Lost Magic
Lineup Details
Drake of Arnak (Summoner): +1 armour to all friendly monsters.
Gloridax Soldier: low mana cost tank due to armour and Shield ability.
Screeching Vulture & Cocatrice: support melee damage and Flying ability to counter the Earthquake ruleset damage.
Furious Chicken: sacrificial lamb to bait Sneak / Opportunity ability monsters.
Brownie: low mana cost speed buff monster.
Swamp Thing: low mana cost range damage and health debuff monster.
Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
I played this challenge on my alt account, where I have the Gloridax Soldier at level 3. The battle was always going to be an uphill battle. The battle showcased when a low-to-mid-tier tank goes up against a mid-to-up tier tank. Gloridax Soldier was up against Flesh Golem, and it was a mismatch from the get-go. Flesh Golem was able to proc Heal, which was healing itself for three health every round, whereas Gloridax Soldier was only able to deal two damage every time it landed a hit. In fairness, Gloridax Soldier was doing all it could in the situation, and in hindsight, I think I didn’t set up the correct backline support monsters to aid it. Whereas Flesh Golem had a great cast of backline monsters doing enough damage to obliterate my backline.
Do you like the Gloridax Soldier? Why or why not?
When I did the original battle challenge, I purchased a level 1 Gloridax Soldier for $0.094, this will set you back $0.6 for a level 1 card. If you are in the market for a low mana cap tank, then I guess you can get the Gloridax Soldier as it's cheaper than other low mana cap tanks like Silvershield Paladin and Stone Golem but be mindful of the limitations of playing it.
