This week's battle challenge focuses on the Furious Chicken:

The chickens of the Splinterlands have had enough. For too long they have been kept in cages and pens. For too many generations their eggs have been made into omelettes, their breasts and thighs into nuggets, and their most pristine feathers into rather tacky jewelry. Under the brave leadership of a great hero known only as The Alpha Chicken, all chicken-kind is finally rising up against their oppressors. This uprising, all across the Splinterlands, is known as the Cluckening.

Card Details

A Reward rare rarity monster from the Neutral Splinter at level 5:

  • Estimated cost: $9.239

  • Mana cost: 0

  • Melee attack: 1

  • Speed: 1

  • Health: 1

  • Enrage ability : Has increased Melee attack and Speed when damaged

For most players, the Furious Chicken is probably one of the highest used cards in their splinterlands monsters deck and rightly so. At 0 mana cost, almost always occupies a spot in the battle. Most of the time, I have zero expectations in getting anything out of the Furious Chicken, purely because it's taken out before its able to do anything, but that's fine. I see it more as a sacrificial lamb potentially absorbing an attack from the enemy's monster, which can go a long way in winning a battle. The Gold Foil version is extensively used (+10% DEC per match), but the price for a single BCX Gold Foil is $42, which is insane! I guess the adage applies here; higher demand for a card results in a higher price.

Battle - Full Battle Replay

Battle Details

  • Mana cap: 13

  • Ruleset(s): Fog of War

Lineup Details

  • Tyrus Paladium (Summoner): +1 armor

  • Furious Chicken: sacrificial monster

  • Scared Unicorn: primary tank and damage dealer

  • Divine Healer: support magic damage + heal

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

This victory came as somewhat of a surprise, and frankly, I think I got lucky. Whenever I see an opponent with a legendary summoner, Yodin Zaku, in this case, I know I am going to be in for a difficult time. Unfortunately for the Furious Chicken, this battle plays out like most of the battles it plays for me. It's usually the first one to go. I was hoping that somehow the Divine Healer heal ability might have procced, but alas, it didn't happen. Luckily for me, the Sacred Unicorn delivered some hefty blows while being kept alive by the Divine Healer.

Do you like the Furious Chicken? Why or why not?

Of course, who doesn't love zero mana cost monsters! Like I mentioned above, I have no expectations when Furious Chicken joins the battlefield for my team. If it's able to contribute, it's a bonus, but it is a sacrificial monster that absorbs the first hit from the enemy's monster. I am glad that I managed to get it relatively cheap before the prices started to increase to insane levels. Pity I didn't grab a Gold Foil version when it was still $5.
