This week’s battle challenge focuses on the Equal Opportunity Ruleset.

Ruleset Details

The Equal Opportunity ruleset introduces the Opportunity ability to all monsters, granting them the chance to target the enemy monster with the lowest health. While Sneak and Snipe abilities still prioritize their targets, the Opportunity ability takes precedence for most other monsters. To make the most of the Equal Opportunity ruleset, there are a few strategies to consider. One approach is to employ multiple back-line tanks in battles. While Sneak and Snipe abilities offer better control over the battle, the Opportunity ability allows previously limited melee monsters to attack from the backline. Another tactic is to utilize monsters with Piercing ability, as they can bypass armor and deliver effective blows to eliminate opponents. Additionally, monsters with Healing and Protect abilities can aid in sustaining the team's survivability.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

In my recent battle, the combination of the Equal Opportunity and Lost Magic rulesets presented me with various options. I chose to use the Water summoner Keyla Frendul, as it instantly turned all friendly monsters into pseudo tanks by granting them +1 armor. This proved to be advantageous. I aimed for high-damage, high-speed DPS melee monsters in positions one to three in battle while ensuring there was some healing support in the backline. Despite my opposition having an underpowered Cursed Windeku, luck and the presence of a camouflaged Venator Kinjo in my backline played a decisive role in securing victory.

Do you like the Equal Opportunity ruleset? Why or why not?

Rulesets that enable all monsters to attack from any position always appeal to me since it doesn’t set any limitations on which positions monsters can attack from. However, this ruleset can sometimes introduce chaos and necessitate extra consideration when selecting monsters for the backline. Deploying monsters with abilities such as Piercing, Sneak, Snipe, Reach, or Blast becomes even more important, as they can provide an advantage over the opposition.
