This week’s battle challenge focuses on the Djinn Apprentice.

Card Details

A Chaos Legion edition rare level monster from the Fire unit at level 3:

  • Estimated cost: $1.489

  • Magic attack: 2

  • Speed: 3

  • Health: 5

The most famous Jinn in popular media culture is the Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn. In a fantastic book, Master and the Apprentice, you gather insight into how Qui-Gon Jinn mentors and guides future Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi in the face of obstacles. Qui-Gon Jinn utilized the force's powers and many abilities, contrary to the Djinn Apprentice, who relies on the brute force of magic damage and only gains abilities from level six onwards. Nonetheless, at least it can be used from level one as it has ok damage, speed, and health, and we all know that the Fire unit doesn't have that many magic damage monsters.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

I have reviewed and rewatched this battle a few times to understand where I lost. The Sneak and Opportunity duo of Serpentine Spy and Tenyii Striker were potent, and I could not deal with that kind of damage every round. But also, my opposition had a much better balance across the backline. How did the Djinn Apprentice fair? Well, it landed one hit and then was destroyed swiftly by the opposition's potent backline and therefore did not have much of an impact other than being a meat shield. Overall, a disappointing loss, but we move on!

Do you like the Djinn Apprentice? Why or why not?

The Fire unit only has 12 magic damage monsters; therefore, Djinn Apprentice joins quite a small niche of monster cards. Of those 12 monsters, only Djinn Apprentice and the Beetle Queen don't have any abilities at level one. Therefore, I can't quite shake the feeling that the Djinn Apprentice is a card that is smack bang in the middle of mediocrity. It's not a bad card, but it has no qualities that make it great. Maybe those players with maxed-level summoners who will then max out Djinn Apprentice will get more value out of it. For now, I will accumulate as part of my 1k pack opening challenge, but I won't be dashing out to the market to get it to the maximum level I can.
