It's natural to feel nervous when you suddenly have to speak in front of a crowd and be the center of attention. Not a few people feel so anxious that their whole body trembles.

This condition can occur because not everyone has good public speaking skills. Have you experienced it too? How do you deal with nervousness when you are a public speaker?

The Importance of Public Speaking Skills in the Digital Age

Public speaking is one type of soft skill that is useful for building engagement with other people, especially when speaking in public. This engagement is not only with people you already know, but also with those who may be complete strangers.

You don't have to be on stage with thousands of spectators, the ability to communicate ideas in public is indispensable when you have to make presentations in front of clients and investors. Even this public speaking will often be done after you work in the company because you have to express your opinion in front of colleagues and superiors.

In terms of work, public speaking skills can even show that you are a professional, responsible, and trustworthy person.

Make Maximum Preparation

The most basic thing to be confident when it comes to speaking in front of many people is to prepare as well as possible. Suppose you are appointed to present the achievements of team work in the office at regular monthly meetings. You can prepare it a few days before the scheduled meeting.

Find out who was present at the meeting. Understand presentation material for achieving good teamwork. If necessary, write down the key points on paper, and don't forget to review the meeting overview. By understanding well the material that will be delivered, of course you will be more calm and confident when you have to appear later.

Exercise Routine

After understanding and studying the material to be delivered, don't hesitate to do the exercises regularly. It's a good idea to ask other people to attend, as if acting as a potential audience, and give your appearance an assessment. But if you don't have one yet, try practicing in front of a mirror while instilling an easy mindset in public speaking.

Because at the previous stage you have understood the material, now you only need to pay attention to body language, expressions, hand movements, and even faces. In this way, you can judge whether the way you present the presentation material is right or not.

Always think positive

Keep in mind when it comes to speaking in front of many people is to always think positive. You must be sure that you have prepared yourself optimally and understand the material that you will convey. With positive thoughts, self-confidence will emerge and you can appear convincing.
