The mindset is something that is formed from many factors, such as family habits, parenting since childhood, culture and way of life of the surrounding community, input from books read, content consumed every day, education, experience, and much more.

There are three components that make up a person's mindset, namely:

  1. Paradigm is a person's way of looking at things.

  2. Basic belief is belief in something that is attached to a person. This belief will make the person able to do something wholeheartedly if the work is in accordance with what he believes.

  3. Value is the value of belief that is practiced in everyday life.

In order to more clearly understand the process of forming a mindset, here are the steps:

  1. Trend watching, top management who will make observations on various trends that cause changes.

  2. Envisioning, is a person's ability to describe the impact of changes caused by various drivers of change such as those that occurred in the previous trend watching stage.

  3. Paradigm formulation is the process of determining a paradigm through the formation of a mindset.

  4. The formulation of the mindset is carried out through communication consisting of paradigms, basic beliefs, and values, which are the components that make up the mindset as previously mentioned.

Application of the Growth Mindset in Self-Change

Thoughts do control human behavior. Now, after knowing the meaning of mindset and its components and the process of its formation, the following is an example of applying a growth mindset in changing one's mindset:

  1. Facing Failure as a Learning Tool

Not all the efforts that have been made can produce success, so when they meet the word failure, the owner of a growth mindset will use it as a learning tool.

  1. Make Other People's Success As Motivation

Seeing others succeed while oneself fail or have not achieved the same results at the same age does sometimes invite negative emotions. However, the owner of a growth mindset always views the success of others in a positive way and does not make it a barrier for himself. He also has the ability to control negative emotions by thinking positively.

  1. Believe that he can grow as long as he is willing to try

Enjoying learning new things is one of the characteristics of a growth mindset owner. Of course, if this is applied in every activity, they will be proactive, innovative, and able to adapt to various situations. They believe that trying new things can be done by anyone regardless of age.

  1. Appreciate Constructive Criticism

The application of a growth mindset in self-change can be seen from their attitude in dealing with criticism. They will appreciate this and come up with a new strategy. Appreciation of criticism is obtained in the following way:

  • Analyze the feedback received, and they are able to give and receive feedback in an appropriate way.

  • Find out cause and effect.

  • Appreciate the critics.

  • Plan a new strategy.

  1. Think of Failure as Normal and Don't Get Tired of Trying Again

Not only using failure as a means to improve performance, the application of a growth mindset to self-change can be seen from their view of failure itself.
