Using a Single Keyboard Mouse on Different Computers on the Same Network

I would like to talk about the most useful programs I have used since I started to deal with computers, perhaps the most useful one. In fact, I wanted to share this program because I think that this program will benefit many people, although I do not prefer to include many such articles on my blog anymore.

For example, let's say you have both a desktop computer and a laptop in the mirror network. Using separate keyboard and mouse for the control of these two systems may seem like cruelty at some point. There is no room on the table, you will be surprised which keyboard and mouse to use. At this very moment, the program Synergy comes to your rescue. It doesn't matter how many systems you have. If you want, get 10 systems in front of you. You can manage them all using a single keyboard mouse. Of course, the important thing here is that all systems are on the same network.

How Does Synergy Work?

Before explaining how to use the program, let me give a brief explanation on how it works. Thanks to the program, you determine a server system. You select all your remaining systems as client and connect to the system you selected as a server. Then you can switch to other systems with your mouse movement as if you were working with multiple monitors. Moreover, you can use your keyboard on the system you switch to.

If you want to use the latest version of the program, you can use it for $ 29. But the old version, which is free, will do just fine. You can download version 1.6.2 of the program from here. After a standard installation phase, when you open the program for the first time, a screen will appear for you to choose whether the system you have installed will be a server or a client. Select the server option on the computer that will be the server. Then we will see a screen like the one below.

The screen in the middle represents our server. Hold the top right screen and drag it to the left or right (where you want to place it) of the center screen. After double clicking on the screen you dragged, a window like the one below will open.

Enter the name of the system that will be the client in the Aliases section (when you open the program in the system that will become a client, it will be written in the screen name section) and after saying add, press the OK button to complete the process. Then, by saying OK again, we will complete the server-side operations. The client side is simpler. In the system we want to be a client, select the client option instead of the server option in the first image and enter the server ip in the server ip section. (When you open the program on the system that will be a server, it will be written in bold just below your server option.) Then complete the installation by saying start both on the server side and on the client side. When you move the mouse cursor towards other screens, you will see that the cursor moves to the other screen. Whichever screen the cursor is on, you can use your keyboard on that system. You can also access different settings by tampering with the program. Also, when you turn the system off and on, you don't need to reopen the program. It is active automatically.

The paid version of the program supports macOS, Windows and Linux platforms.

Since Synergy is normally a paid program, there are also free alternatives such as Input Director. However, Synergy is easier to use than its alternatives. The choice is up to you.
