How to become an effective writer?

4 28

What does it take to become an effective writer? Talent? Intelligence? Knowledge? Creativity? Imagination? Training? Practice? I ask 10 people the question, and i am likely to get ten different answers. One response might even be another question.:What is effective writing in the first place? This question has no automatic answer either.

The truth is, though, that most of us recognize effective writing when we read it. Every day we make judgments about what we read; we make observations like "That was an entertaining story," "This ARTICLE is boring and not related in BCH," "That this article is interesting," These directions are confusing, " or" That's a clever ad." Judgments such as these show that we have developed certain basic expectations as readers. Quite simply, we expect to profit from what we read-- to learn something worthwhile;to be exposed to new ideas, experiences, or viewpoints ;to be moved emotionally ; or to be entertained. What we do not expect is to waste our time - - to emerge from our reading having learned nothing or feeling confused. An effective writer, therefore is one who has something worth saying and says it well.
