"The seven deadly sins and how they help you prosper in life."

I'm sure you've heard of these sins before; they are widely known in Christianity and has been labeled "deadly" as they have severe punishments in the afterlife. In Christian teachings, they are shed light for the purpose that these kinds of behaviors will not cultivate inside the hearts and minds of humanity, further corrupting the soul, causing them to act immoralities. These are normal for humans to feel since we are creatures born with emotions; we can't deter these feelings and get tempted to act upon them. We can suppress these behaviors to the best of our how our mind can stay resilient to these temptations.

Pride, Greed, Sloth, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, and Wrath are the seven deadly sins. This article will talk about my opinions about them and how they affect us in our everyday lives.

Wrath

Fueled by the emotion of anger and hatred, we humans often feel the sin of Wrath—the urge to hurt a person either because of revenge or acting on getting offended or insulted. Only a hypocrite will say that they wouldn't feel Wrath inside them or have the temptation to act on them. The sin of Wrath helps make people sway from insensitivity, making ourselves free from society's shackles that we need to stay put and be a sheep to their standards. Though it's been said that Wrath's sin has a lot of downsides that can lead to a lot of immoral acts, only if you know how to understand and control your rage inside you, you can make it a weapon to control and conquer yourself.

Gluttony

You're probably thinking, how does Gluttony even help us in our daily lives? When it's just the epitome of human greed and selfishness? Gluttony helps by making us realize that not to waste every single blessing that's given to us. Even though it is positively associated with overindulgence in things, we can know what's enough for us and how we share it with the people in need. Gluttony doesn't always have to be selfish, Gluttony can only be selfish if we tend to waste the privilege that's been given to us.

Sloth

The sin of laziness and unproductivity, we sometimes procrastinate and take our time before doing things. This sin is deemed "deadly" because becoming lazy as a sloth can have many downsides in life. The passive mentality of one's person can cultivate this sin and give birth to a sense of apathy and inactivity, making a person absent-minded in this world full of progressions. So how does this sin help us in our lives? Sloth actually helps us realize that we need to take breaks in our daily works. If we can't recognize when to take a break, we might as well be self-destructing. It doesn't hurt being a Sloth sometimes; it only becomes a sin if it affects others, such as not telling your workmates that you're going to take a break and etc.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Envy

Getting envious of things can really be troublesome for our mentality. Jealousy and resentment can make you terrible things to your neighbor. So, how does being envious help us? Being envious helps us realize the things we want to improve in life, especially if we still lack something essential in reaching our dreams in the future. It gives us enlightenment that we shouldn't be stagnant in life and always look for ways to improve. The world revolves continuously; we meet many different people we can learn from and expose ourselves to unfamiliar environments. The help of envy would help us realize self-worth in the process.

Lust

The feeling of lust inevitably resides in one of us. Humans are inherently sexual creatures, and these feelings of desire are important in human reproduction. The deadly sin of lust helps us realize that we shouldn't disregard the passion and desire inside us. As human desire can sometimes be dangerous, we should consider that we shouldn't compare ourselves to animals with the uncontrollable urge of reproduction and lust for their significant other.  Our passions help us propel ourselves to continue to thrive in this vast world as we embrace our sexual desires justly.

Greed

The greedy have no place in a progressive and productive society. It brings corruption to the system and inevitably destroys everything, yet being greedy is inherently inside us. The concept of greed helps us realize that we need to have extra care of what's essential us, we tend to have a false misconception that you're already being selfish if you're being greedy. We have to be selfish and protect what is ours to avoid being taken advantage of.

Pride

They deem this to be the deadliest among the sins since it embodies it all. They say being prideful, makes you think lesser of others and have a sense of vanity that you are superior to them. Failing to recognize others, having the illusion of grandiose makes this sin worthy of being on top. In my opinion, this sin is the most important and actually the most helpful. If we can't take pride in what we do and what we fight for what good is it for? Taking pride in our own endeavours might equate as a sin, but it will never equate to being inhumane. The sin of pride helps us recognize our self, our worth, our own accomplishments, negating the chances of self-deprecation and ultimately, depression in this crazy world.

I see that they can help, but they are sins!

You must think that I'm stark-raving mad for making the deadly sins helpful in mankind when they are recognized by the church to be the traits that we must avoid. Yes, they are sins, and too much of them can be destructive, yet we must not forget that we are humans, and we are capable of suppressing our own desires and inner thoughts. These sins also tell us not to overdo everything, the sins do good in their own way, but too much good stuff is bad stuff.

These sins live among us, we must get to know them or else they'd get to take control of us.

Reach for the stars.

Marc.

Honestly, they can stray from their initial definitions like in case of lust and gluttony which are ao closely related, it's not always about material things or food but there's also knowledge and it's helpful to lust for knowledge in this information age. Never saw those deadly sins as deadly either too
