The situation of the pandemic has placed the world population in a critical situation. It is not easy to deal with a situation that we were not used to. For Venezuelans who already faced a difficult situation, the lack of the most basic services: electricity, water and health has been deprived of almost all the inhabitants.
Before the pandemics we were in a pretty slow recovery from last year from blackouts. Instability with respect to electricity still persisted in some populations. Currently, electricity is causing many discomforts in the population, since there are towns and cities that go up to 72 hours without electricity.
Due to the light, the Internet fails, causing populations and families to remain isolated for days. For the rest, this situation is desperate, not knowing anything about his relatives when the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing causes him stress. Our parents are elderly, hypertensive and anxiety crisis. Quarantine is not working well.
One problem leads to another and the hospital crisis does not escape him. To get sick in this country is to die of decline as they say colloquially. Entering any public health establishment is complying with inhumane conditions. We see almost inert bodies on stretchers, relatives lying on the floor because there is no chair, there is no bed to rest. The food situation is depressing. Patients who must eat a healthy, protein-rich diet end up simply eating white rice or pasta, regardless of the appropriate diet. Far are the portions of proteins, cereals, balanced carbohydrates.
In addition to the above, crime has been unleashed. War between gangs for territories, for control and power. They no longer rob you to take a cell phone or cash. Crime has created new ways to swindle and defraud the working population. Internet fraud is the order of the day.
We can eat, but what is the cost. Really, those who think that one lives free in Venezuela are not further from the truth. Some say they don't pay for electricity, water or the phone. When in reality we are paying a high price for not having them. A rationing caused by a lack of investment is making it difficult for us to live in the dark, the lack of water is the product, above all, of the indiscriminate logging of an issue that is not discussed, but is latent. Many of our rivers have been drying up due to severe droughts and the lack of reforestation of the soils.
One of the issues that is on the table, but that is left aside is education. Our educational system came with many difficulties and due to the lack of services, this pandemic made us realize that our education must be reevaluated and connected to our reality. How do we get illiterate parents to explain to their children, how do we send pictures of assignments with a precarious system and without a mid-range phone? Many of our children, young people, are growing up with a grandfather, an uncle or a relative, because given the situation in the country, their parents had to emigrate to be able to educate and support them. In other words, they are in an unstable situation.
The situation we are experiencing is wreaking havoc on the emotional health of the population, where every day we see more desperate, depressed people, with high levels of stress and anxiety and praying to God for a quick way out of this terrible situation we are experiencing.
