A bully once

**Writing prompt from:** https://writingexercises.co.uk/firstlinegenerator.php

As I sat there in the diner, waiting for my breakfast of my favourite pancake and latte to arrive, I couldn't help but think how different she seemed now. Back then, I remembered the way she used to push us, the ones she deemed weak, to the ground, just because she felt like it. She would pinch, hit or slap us, any time she pleased. No rhyme or reason given. None at all. She and her minions would then laugh and walk off, as if nothing happened, while we painfully tried to brush off the dust and humiliation, off our uniforms and face. "Miss, your pancake and latte.." I was snapped back to the diner. I nodded to the waitress and said thank you. My eyes continued to glide back to the woman. She seemed happy with her two adorable girls, one slightly older than the other. Both looked very much like her. But I hope they do not grow up to be like their mother in school. "What do you have there?" I was startled once when I heard that voice boomed across the room. I tried to hide my cookie, the one my mother made specially for me on my birthday, with chocolate frosting that had my name and happy birthday written on it. She came walking towards me, with her minions following closely behind. She snatched the cookies from my hands, took a few bites and threw the rest to the ground. My heart crumbled, just as the cookies did when they hit the ground. "Hey, are you Alice from Crimson High?" I heard a voice asking. I turned and there she was, standing next to me. I was speechless. I nodded. My mind asked myself, don't tell me that I was still afraid of her, after all these years?? "I'm not sure if you remember me, I'm Kara." I stared at her, still shocked that she came over. "Look, I just wanted to say I'm sorry for all that I did to you and the rest in school. I know what I did was wrong, beyond wrong. I shouldn't have. I was stupid and selfish." I was even more shocked now. I continued to nod. "Okay." was all I could manage. Before I could bring myself to say anything else, she said "I've got to go now, my girls are waiting for me. I'm sorry again. Perhaps we can have breakfast together some time, maybe at this diner?" I was dumbstruck. She stood there waiting for an answer. "Maybe." I managed to reply. Then, she smiled and left the diner with her girls. **Writing tool**: Laptop **Timer**: Laptop clock **Grammar tool**: None **Time**: 12 minutes, +5 minutes editing **Lead image**: by Lorenzo Nafissi on Unsplash https://unsplash.com/photos/eTK0M9UiB6g
