The internet is constantly changing, and the version we use now is very different from what it was in the 1990s. While the internet has come a long way, it still has a long way to go. According to experts the metaverse and Web 3.0 are expected to be the next big things. This article will help you to get a better understanding of Web 3.0 and the metaverse

What is Web 3.0?

  • In Web 3.0, the emphasis is on the idea that there has been a fundamental change in how we utilize the internet

  • Web 1.0 was the earlier version of the internet, which ran from 1990 to 2004

  • The internet served as the go-to resource for information back then

  • In comparison to those who consumed the content, the number of content creators was quite small

  • Then, we have Web 2.0, which is the internet of today

  • User-generated content is the main focus of this “phase” of the internet

  • Users connect on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube rather than just surfing the web to look something up

  • A few examples of interactions are sharing videos, commenting, and liking photos

  • The internet of the future is Web 3.0

  • Since we already interact on the internet in a much more “hands-on” way than we did in the 90s and early 2000s, we can expect these interactions to become even more intensive and realistic

  • Because Web 3.0 has not yet arrived, it is vital to stress that there is no definitive definition of it but all indications point to blockchain technology being used to power this future internet

What is the Metaverse?

  • Neal Stephenson initially used the word “metaverse” in his science fiction book Snow Crash from 1992

  • He used it to define a 3D virtual environment

  • While Web 3.0 focuses on the development of the internet of tomorrow, the metaverse focuses on how we’ll experience it

  • Proponents of these online worlds say we’ll use virtual technology to “enter” the metaverse, and we’ll move between virtual worlds using digital avatars

  • You can already check out some of these virtual worlds, such as Decentraland, Fortnite, and Rec Room, online

  • Each of these virtual worlds can be thought of as its own metaverse

  • While the majority of current metaverse platforms are focused on gaming, if the metaverse gains traction as supporters predict, it may change how we work, socialize, and live

  • For instance, you might put on a VR headset and meet a coworker in a virtual environment rather than communicating with them over Zoom
