Peer-to-peer torrent client BitTorrent has launched its download optimization program, BitTorrent Speed, with native token functionality. The news was released in an official statement issued on July 8th.

BitTorrent launched the original Tron blockchain, BitTorrent (BTT), earlier this year, revealing that it plans to develop a platform that will allow users to optimize network speed and download files faster.

BitTorrent Speed, a program that connects and rewards users with BitTorrent (BTT) tokens, will be integrated into new downloads of the popular µTorrent Classic Windows client, the company announced.

At launch time, the product remains limited to Windows systems only, with obvious plans to expand coverage in the future.

Tron, which BitTorrent bought in July 2018 for an undisclosed amount, is working on integrating two decentralized networks based on Bittorrent’s ongoing peer-to-peer technology exchange standard, launched in its earliest form back in 2004.

The statement said BitTorrent's product suite - including BitTorrent and Utorrent clients - supports "the world's largest decentralized P2P network, with an estimated 100 million active users and installations of over 1 billion devices - accounting for 22% upstream and 3% of total traffic."

Despite the launch of BitTorrent Speed, Tron (TRX) trades at around $ 0.034, which is less than 2% per day and is ranked 10th in terms of market capitalization.
